Officers at the Port of Tacoma don't understand the rights of photographers or journalists. A group of about 6--8 officers accosted me about filming the port of Tacoma for coverage of the Stryker Brigade Protests. Komo 4 and/or King 5 were standing near or in the same location earlier. But seeing that I was a student, they said they were arresting me, and then detained me for an hour in the back of a squad car. They did not read me my rights, nor did they care about my rights. As one officer told me, they don't care about "judges sitting in courtrooms with their black robes." He told me, "I don't want to hear you complaining about your consitutional rights, son. You're lucky we're letting you go." They took my car keys and (presumably) searched my car. They said they have a trespass warrant out for me--so if I were to go back there, I would actually be arrested. This port has been recently used for new shipments of Strykers, rockets, and other heavy military equipment straight to Iraq. This equipment has already been filmed by at least 3 news organizations, including aerial shots.
